Empowering Māori landowners to plan for their whenua’s future.

For generations, Māori landowners have faced complex systems when trying to manage and make decisions about their whenua. The information they need is scattered across institutional tools, layered in legal and technical language, and hard to access without specialist support.

Matarau was created to change that. Built with and for Māori, it transforms complex land-use data into an accessible digital experience, grounded in kaupapa Māori values.

The site goes beyond presenting information, and removes barriers – empowering tangata whenua to explore their whenua’s potential on their own terms. Bringing confidence and agency back to a space where it’s long been constrained.
